Guest Speaker 2: Silvana Trevale
Silvana Trevale is a fashion and documentary photographer in London. She talked about where she came from, the meaning and process behind her work and her current work which is more fashion-based.
Her two projects: Nosotros and Venezuelan youth portray what is happening in the country and a lot of her work has a recurring theme of ‘home’, which she is constantly searching for. They’re about the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela which is where she is originally from.
I thought that the way her work is consistent with theme, style and model casting was very thought out and makes her work very visually pleasing.
I found her approach to this theme and her work very inspiring and I enjoyed listening to her talking about her work, and showing us the different shoots she has done, for personal and also for brands.
She advised us to make the most of opportunities, find creatives and clients that share the same vision as you (and collaborate with students or people who are starting out), and explore what is important to you. Which is advice that I am going to try my best to follow and this is useful to develop my skills, particularly for freelance.
