Project progression and reflection

My progression from the previous shoot has included more colour and constructed setups similar to studio production setups. My work is showing more domestic objects (including food) performance of ‘tasks’ that a woman would typically be expected to do as a ‘housewife’ while the gaze is also vacant and showing the uninterested expression that is fed up of conforming to both society’s and male’s expectations of women.

I researched different artists and ways that I could present this in my images, and I wrote down different objects I could use and that I had in at home already; an iron and ironing board, hot dogs and a plant. The final outcomes for this set of images I think is quite humorous (particularly the first one). I added the second layer of fabric on the table to create more depth to the images, and the fact that the head is seen and the table hides the body is also a key focal point of the work. This has developed my work into something a lot more surreal while also keeping the same constructed setups and domesticity.

My artist influences for this shoot were: Juno Calypso and Mitsuko Nagone who use domestic settings, objects and food in their images.
